condo pics
There is a theory about procrastination: The best way to get yourself to do something you don't feel like doing, is to come up with something you want to do even less.
Because I don't want to do my corporate finance spreadsheet, I am going to post some pictures of the condo.
(Also, I don't think the comma in my opening sentence is strictly kosher vis-a-vis the rules of grammar, but I felt it clarified what I was trying to say. Frankly, this blog is more colloquial/conversational anyway. Also, the rules of English are like speed limits: when you're driving a Porche, you get a little leeway.)
First, the kitchen. Shots are from early in the move, and then some taken today:

Next, the entrance foyer. Same deal; one early shot, one from tonight:

The bedroom:

The living room:

The bathroom:

And the study:

A bonus pic of my new awesome cold cathode case lights:

And a bonus pic of the kitchen with just the stove light on:

We've come a long way.

a tiger's reflection

This tiger was just pacing back and forth along the edge of the water, never stopping for long. I happened to snap this shot when it was turning around. I think it looks contemplative somehow...much more peaceful than the craziness of the crowd around the big cats exhibit.

naptime

This photo makes me think of a tropical beach somewhere. I can't wait to take a vacation. I am going to look just like this sea lion.

dependable turtles

I have seen the lemurs in the lemur exhibit maybe once since I moved here. I guess they stay inside when it's cold or something. The turtles, however, never fail to disappoint.

lonely elephant

This baby elephant came outside the back of the elephant house and wandered shyly along the stone wall.

I didn't mind being stuck in Massachusetts an extra night.

lightspeed

December of last year, me driving to pick Kara up at the airport. Manual camera settings with the shutter open for 15 seconds. Neat effect. I probably took about 40 or 50 shots this way, but I don't think any one really captured what I was going for quite like this one...having the guages blur like that actually adds to the effect, I think.

donkey butts

Last pic for today. A couple of donkeys just hanging out at the petting zoo.

two eagles

The bald eagles at the zoo are in a chicken wire enclosure, so it was basically impossible to take a picture of them without getting their cage in the shot. You can write your own socio-political commentary on this one. I tweaked the contrast and color saturation to make it more of a silhouette, and to emphasize the blues.

vent texture

This is just a shot of a vent on the side of one of the zoo buildings. I don't know why, but I like it, and it was one of the few photos I took today that I was happy with showing.

winter moon

One of the first "keeper" photos from the new digital camera. Shot December 25th, around sunset, in Kreamer, just across the street from my parents' house. Canon A85, stock setup. Really pleased with this one.

Kara meets a squirrel

Not a real squirrel though. Stuffed-type.

mantle and wreath

Our more tastefully decorated mantle. I was disappointed to find that about half my strings of lights didn't work this year.

christmas in the ghetto

Why, it's our Christmas tree! It is made of 17 cans of Bud Light, some hot glue, and a string of white lights.

royal flush in love

I am the luckiest man ever. Sometimes I forget that, and Kara reminds me.
I have some pictures to post, but I'll do most of them tomorrow. But here's a teaser. Whatever could that stack of beer cans be?!?
P.S. It's a cheesy subject line. I DO NOT CARE.

the hill

The Hill is a special place to me. It's comprised of the field and woods above my parents' house in PA. I've been playing there since I was small enough to use an axe handle for a hiking stick, and over the years, I've used it for exploring, camping, mountain biking, building forts, sledding, paintball, nighttime photography, and berry picking. If I could, I'd buy the land, just to make sure it never gets developed.

sun on the water

I took this just outside of Mt. Vernon, on the Potomac where it widens out. I like the way the cheap cellphone sensor chip, coupled with the prism effect of the ripples, splits the white sun into sparkles of color.

i saw a turtle

This is Mr. Shell. He's a box turtle that lives on The Hill above my parents' house in PA. I can't prove it, but as turtles are generally long-lived creatures, I suspect he has been living there for some time, as I've seen a box turtle with similar markings there in the past.

I haven't been to Asylum in quite some time. This is a skull from their wall.

a warm day, a cigar, and thee

The author on his Mt. Pleasant D.C. porch in warmer, more relaxed times. I don't remember the brand of cigar, but I'm sure it was delicious.
